Myrnaloy (Sebade) Smith

Myrnaloy (Sebade) Smith passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the age of 89.
She was born in Wall, SD, on April 13, 1936. During the war, as a young child her family moved to Tacoma, WA, for a few years and then moved back to Wall. She graduated as an Hawk from Wall High School in 1954.
She met the love of her life, Guy Smith, while she was in high school. They were engaged when she was in high school and married in June of 1954 after her graduation. After getting married, they moved to Limestone, ME, while Guy was stationed there. They returned to Wall in November of 1954 when Guy was discharged from the service.
She worked as a waitress while attending school to become a beautician. In 1957 she started her career as a beautician. In 1958, the family then moved to Rapid City and once building was complete, moved into their life-long home. She opened the Nu Mode Beauty Nook in the basement of her home and had many friends and  loyal customers.
She was a founding member and very active at South Maple United Methodist Church. She was involved in several committees, sang in the choir, played piano and organ, and was a certified lay speaker. She was a member of the Women Who Care group, who sang at local nursing homes and assisted living centers. She was also involved in the United Methodist Woman’s group including being elected to several leadership roles. She also assisted in doing hospital visitations. She was a den mother for her son’s scout troop. She was also a member of the Does at the Elks Lodge.
She was involved in the auxiliary to the American Postal Workers’ Union for over 23 years. She held several local, state and national offices including becoming the National President. She was the queen of parliamentary procedures.
She served as the State President of the South Dakota Womens’ Highway Safety Leaders. One of the projects they worked on was car seat safety.
Her major love and passion was God, family and music. Family time included fun trips and picnics and camping in the Black Hills. She also enjoyed traveling to conventions with the auxiliary. Her special talent of spreading faith and joy will be deeply missed.
Myrnaloy’s memory will forever be cherished by her daughters, Patty Goodro and Loyann (Harry) Kistler; 5 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, and many other family members and close friends.
Myrnaloy is preceded in death by her husband, Guy Smith; parents, Herman and Eva (Huddleston) Sebade; brother, Boyd Sebade; sister, Arla (Sebade) Sabo; infant daughter, Karen Smith and son Paul Smith.
A Visitation service will be held at Open Heart United Methodist Church in Rapid City, Thursday, Jan 29, from 5-7 p.m. A Memorial service will be held at Open Heart UMC on Friday, Jan 30, at 2 p.m. with a Burial at Mt View Cemetery in Rapid City and a Reception to follow. Kirk Funeral Home.
