Robert J Clements

Robert “Bob” Clements was born August 4, 1952 in Quinn, SD to John F and Colleen (Buchholz) Clements. Bob grew up on his parents ranch 14 miles north of Philip, SD until moving to Wall, SD in 1967.  After attending his elementary years at a country school near the ranch,  he spent his Freshman year at Philip High School and the remaining high school years at Wall High School before graduating in 1970.
Robert attended art school and lived most of his life as an artist and gallerist.  He owned the Robert Clements Gallery and framing business in Portland, ME eventually moving that business to Belle Fourche, SD and finally to Mineral Point, WI.
In February 1988 Robert and Ellen Mugar were united in marriage in St. Paul,  MN.  To this union, a daughter, Lydia Louise was born in 1991.  Lydia followed in her dad’s love of both art and rocks.  He was noted as saying, “I never met a rock I didn’t like”.   Robert also had a great love of the prairie whether driving or hiking around, he was at home.
Surviving Robert are his daughter, Lydia Clements and her husband Elijah Melanson from Raleigh, NC; his sister Connie Richards, IA; his brother David Clements, WY; and his sister, Nancy Clements, WI.  In addition, Robert is survived by several nieces and nephews and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 23, 2026 from 1 to 4 pm at the Red Rock Restaurant in Wall, SD, with a eulogy at 2 pm.
